Approval has been granted for the construction of two underpasses on the Delhi-Sohna-Alwar Highway.

Updated: Oct 5

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of two underpasses on the Delhi-Sohna-Alwar Highway. The first underpass will be built near Vatika Chowk in Gurugram, and the second will be constructed beneath the highway near the village of Islampur. There has been a long-standing demand for these underpasses, and their construction will help alleviate current and future traffic jams in the area.

To discuss this, Public Works Minister Rao Narbir Singh met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in his office on Thursday. During the meeting, Narbir emphasized the importance of constructing an underpass at Vatika Chowk to make the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) signal-free. Traffic pressure at this junction is high, and an elevated highway is being constructed from Subhash Chowk to the other side of Badshahpur village. The 4.7 km stretch currently has no entry or exit points. When the elevated highway is completed, heavy traffic pressure is expected at Vatika Chowk, leading to potential jams. After hearing Narbir’s arguments, the Union Minister approved the construction of the underpass at Vatika Chowk.

Similarly, Narbir explained the need for an underpass for the residents of Islampur village along the Gurugram-Sohna Road to cross National Highway 248A. There are currently three cuts in the highway to facilitate the villagers, but these will be closed once the highway expands to six lanes. Without these cuts, it will become difficult for the residents of Islampur, a village located on both sides of the highway, to cross. After considering the arguments, Nitin Gadkari also approved the construction of an underpass near Islampur village. Rao Narbir expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister on behalf of the villagers of Islampur for approving the underpasses.
